DOLE reminds employers of pay rules for February holidays

Employees who will report to work on special non-working days in February are entitled to premier pay, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) reiterated Sunday.

According to the DOLE, workers who report on February 1 or the Chinese New Year and February 25 or the EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary should be paid an additional 30% of their basic wage.

The additional pay will reflect the computation of the basic wage multiplied by 130%, on top of the cost of living allowance.

Workers who will render overtime work will be paid an additional 30% of their hourly rate during the said days, while those who will report on the holidays even on their rest day should be paid an additional 50% on the first eight hours of work.

Those who will work overtime on their day off should also be paid an additional 30% of their hourly rate.

“For employees who did not work, the ‘no work, no pay’ principle shall apply unless there is a favorable company policy, or collective bargaining agreement granting payment on a special day,” the DOLE said.

Malacañang earlier announced that February 1 and February 25 are special non-working days, based on a declaration signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on October 29, 2021. —LBG, GMA News
