Jimenez to resign to give Inting chance to pick preferred Comelec spox
Commission on Elections (Comelec) director James Jimenez on Thursday said he will tender his resignation as the poll body’s spokesman.
This, he said, is to give acting Comelec chairman Socorro Inting the leeway to designate her preferred spokesperson.
“I am going to submit my courtesy resignation as designated spokesman to the acting chair to give her the opportunity to make that designation herself,” Jimenez said at a press briefing.
Jimenez said he has been offering his courtesy resignation every time there is a new Comelec chairman.
“I do this every time there is a change in the chairmanship, whether it is an actual chairmanship or an acting chairmanship. I offer my resignation as spokesperson,” he said.
He also explained that this is part of the changes in the poll body following the retirement of former commissioners Sheriff Abas, Rowena Guanzon, and Antonio Kho Jr.
“It’s time for a great change here in the Comelec,” he said.
Aside from being the Comelec spokesperson, Jimenez also sits as Director IV at the poll body's Education and Information Department. —KBK, GMA News
