Arrested violators of election gun ban now at 759 – PNP

The total number of people who have violated the election gun ban has risen to 759, according to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday.

The latest PNP data showed at least 677 operations have been conducted nationwide since the gun ban took effect on January 9.

Of the 759 arrested violators, 728 were civilians, 10 were policemen, and four were military personnel.

Among those confiscated were 577 firearms, 273 deadly weapons, and 3,849 pieces of ammunition.

The top five regions in terms of the number of arrested individuals are the National Capital Region (NCR) with 251, followed by Region 7 (106), Region 3 (105), Region 4A (72), and Region 6 (42).

The Commission on Elections, through Resolution 10728, prohibits the bearing, carrying, or transporting of firearms or deadly weapons outside residence and in all public places from January 9 to June 8.

Law enforcers are exempted from the gun ban as long as they have authorization from the Comelec and they should wear agency-prescribed uniform while on official duty during the election period.

According to the PNP, violators may face imprisonment of not less than one year but not more than six years and shall not be subject to probation. — VBL, GMA News
