PNP to provide standard security package to 2022 election candidates — Carlos

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will give a standard security package for the candidates in the 2022 elections, its chief Police General Dionardo Carlos said Tuesday.

Interviewed on CNN Philippines, Carlos said this came up after a meeting with Commission on Elections acting chairperson Socorro Inting and other law enforcement agencies on Monday.

“We will have a standard security package for candidates [who will be] going on their campaign. Pantay-pantay po ang aming gagawin (We will do it equally)” he said.

Security teams will be provided to candidates to monitor the sites of their campaign activities as well as their movements to ensure the safety of everyone, he added.

According to Carlos, some presidential candidates have already coordinated with the PNP to have police security teams.

He noted that the security of candidates is still the responsibility of their respective teams and that the PNP personnel will only assist them.

The campaign period for Eleksyon 2022 candidates running for national positions officially started this Tuesday amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
