Robredo tells voters: Be wary of ‘mambubudol’ candidates

Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday appealed to the public to be critical of candidates making lofty promises, saying unfulfilled ones will hurt the voters rather than those aspiring political posts.

(I appeal to you. Many candidates will visit you and make promises, and I pray that we won't waste our chance to choose the best for us in 2022. Think of it as a single woman being courted. If we will fall for sweet talking, we will be the ones on the losing end.)

Robredo said that when candidates say they love the poor and are not corrupt, voters should take it upon themselves to check if these candidates have the track record to back it up.

(When they say they love the poor, how were they able to show it? If they say they are against corruption, let's look at the people around them. Because ultimately, if we just believe their words to us, the promises made the us will remain just that: promises.)

Robredo also urged her fellow Bicolanos to vote for her and the rest of her slate in the 2022 polls because they are pushing for an honest governance anchored on backing of the people, rather than political bigwigs.

"Akin lang pong pangarap pala, sana hindi ninyo lang ako tinutulungan dahil Bikolano ako, dapat may mas malalim pang dahilan kung bakit tinutulungan niyo ako, na sana sumasama kayo sa amin dahil naniniwala kayo sa isang matino at mahusay na pamamahala," she said in a separate campaign stop in Labo, Camarines Norte.

(My dream is that you are supporting and helping me not just because I am your fellow Bikolano, but also because of a deeper reason that you are with me because you believe in what we are pushing for: an honest and competence governance.)

(We know and we have tried and tested that governance anchored on integrity and excellence and defeat traditional and rotten politics if we stand united against it.) — RSJ, GMA News
