PNP: Areas under granular lockdown decreased to 393

From 582, the number of areas under granular lockdown due to COVID-19 has decreased to 393, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Thursday.

As of Wednesday, 240 of these areas are in Cordillera, 111 in Ilocos, 23 in Cagayan, 14 in the National Capital Region, four in Mimaropa, and one in Zamboanga.

A total of 775 people are affected by the restrictions.

To enforce minimum health standards, the PNP has deployed 126 personnel and 352 force multipliers in the locked down areas.

Local government units (LGUs) decide whether to impose or lift a granular lockdown on a house, compound, street, or building based on the number of infections reported.

Granular lockdowns are micro-level area COVID-19 quarantines for "critical zones" in LGUs.

On Wednesday, the Philippines reported 3,651 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the country’s caseload to 3,623,176. Of the total number, 96,326 are active cases. — Joviland Rita/RSJ, GMA News
