DepEd: PTAs banned from holding campaign activities in schools
The Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday reminded that school-based organization Parents Teachers Association (PTA) must follow its policies and guidelines, stressing that it is prohibited from engaging in partisan political activities within school grounds.
In a statement, the department said the PTA “shall adhere to all existing policies and implementing guidelines issued or hereinafter may be issued by the DepEd.”
“DepEd Order No. 54, series of 2009 also states that all PTA activities within the school premises or which involve the school, its personnel or students shall be with prior consultation and approval of the school head,” DepEd said in a statement.
The department said the PTA must serve as a support group and partner of the school, adding that it shall be defined by “cooperative and open dialogue with stakeholders to promote the welfare of the students.”
“We continue to recognize and value the partnership of the community, our parents, our teachers, and our school administration in ensuring the delivery of quality basic education for all of our learners,” the DepEd said.
The DepEd earlier reminded its officers, teachers, and non-teaching personnel to avoid engaging in partisan political activities ahead of the May 2022 polls.
The department added that this would ensure that employees are focused on public service and are shielded from the “unpredictability” of politics.—LDF, GMA News
