Philippines posts 1,223 new COVID-19 infections; active tally at 53,934
The Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday registered 1,223 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the nationwide COVID-19 tally to 3,660,020.
The country’s active case count stood at 53,934, of which 597 are asymptomatic, 48,842 are mild, 2,780 are moderate, 1,417 are severe, and 298 are in critical condition.
The Health Department said of the 1,223 reported cases on Saturday, 1,179, or 96% occurred within the recent 14 days from February 13 to February 26, 2022.
The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were the National Capital Region (NCR) with 271 or 23%, followed by Region 6 with 159 or 13% and Region 4-A with 152 or 13%.
Meanwhile, at least 2,400 more patients recovered from the viral disease, bringing the total to 3,549,735.
The death toll climbed to 56,351 with 128 new fatalities.
The Philippines’ COVID-19 positivity rate is at 5.3%, which is slightly higher than the World Health Organization's requirement target of less than 5% positivity rate.
The total conducted COVID-19 tests were 26,631.
Based on the latest data, 27% of 3,800 intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 patients nationwide are in use.
At least 16% of the 14,300 ward beds in the country were utilized, while 24% of the 4,000 ward beds in the NCR were in use.
The DOH said all laboratories were operational since February 24, while four laboratories failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
The Health Department reported 95 duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 80 are recoveries, and one was a fatality.
At least 113 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
PNP
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Saturday reported six new COVID-19 infections among its personnel, bringing its COVID-19 tally to 48,811.
Based on the latest PNP data, total active infections stood at 33.
The PNP also reported five personnel recovered from the viral disease, increasing its recovery tally to 48,650.
The number of deaths among PNP personnel remained at 128. — DVM, GMA News
