CHED suspends scholarship applications for incoming first-year college students

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) announced on Thursday that the scholarship application process for incoming first-year college students has been suspended due to a lack of funds.

“CHED will temporarily suspend the application to CHED Scholarship Program (CSP) for incoming first-year college students for Academic Year (AY) 2022-2023,” it said in a Facebook post.

“The suspension is an offshoot of budget inadequacy in the Commission's FY 2022 budget for StuFAPs (Student Financial Assistance Programs)," it added.

In a memorandum dated February 21, CHED Chairperson Prospero de Vera III instructed the commission's regional offices to disseminate the information on the matter to avoid the spread of fake news and confusion among students who are interested in applying.

The CHED reported in September that the commission provides financial aid to over two million students. — VBL, GMA News
