Philippines reports 870 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 48,793


The Philippines on Sunday logged 870 new COVID-19 cases increasing the nationwide COVID-19 tally to 3,667,542.

Based on the Department of Health (DOH)’s latest bulletin, the new cases brought the country's active case count to 48,793, of which 401 are asymptomatic, 44,131 are mild, 2,693 are moderate, 1,279 are severe, and 289 are critical.

The DOH said that of the 870 reported cases on Sunday, 799 or 92% occurred within the recent 14 days from February 21 to March 6, 2022.

The top region with cases in the recent two weeks was the National Capital Region (NCR) with 212 cases or 27%. This was followed by Region 4-A with 126 cases or 16%, and Region 6 with 80 cases or 10%.

The number of recoveries rose to 3,561,726 after 1,433 more patients recovered from the respiratory disease.

The country’s death toll, on the other hand, climbed to 57,023 with 144 new fatalities.

The total conducted COVID-19 tests were 24,543.

The latest data also showed that 25% of 3,700 intensive care unit (ICU) beds for COVID-19 patients nationwide are in use.

At least 14% of the 14,000 ward beds in the country were utilized, while 24% of the 3,900 ward beds in the NCR were in use.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational on March 4. However, five laboratories failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

Six duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, two were recoveries.

Meanwhile, at least 130 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation. — DVM, GMA News
