Guevarra: NBI found a lead on missing sabungeros

The National Bureau of Investigation has found a lead on the case of 34 missing cockfighting enthusiasts or "sabungeros," Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Wednesday.

With this, Guevarra expressed confidence that the investigation being conducted by authorities will yield positive results soon.

"Yesterday, I was informed by the NBI that they had found a lead, but no further information was given. I am confident that the NBI and the PNP will soon come up with positive results," he said.

"It is improbable that 34 persons in strikingly similar situations would disappear without a trace," he added.

The Malacañang has ordered both the PNP and NBI to look into the case of the missing sabungeros and submit a report within 30 days.

The PNP on Wednesday said kidnapping and serious illegal detention complaints will be filed this week against six security personnel over the disappearances of six persons involved in cockfighting operations at the Manila Arena.

Meanwhile, the Palace said the "e-sabong" operations will continue and “remain unaffected” despite calls from senators to suspend the licenses of firms operating online cockfighting until the cases of the missing sabungeros were resolved.—AOL, GMA News
