No talks yet on MRT3 fare hike despite fuel price increases, exec says

There has been no discussion yet on increasing fare in Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3) despite the series of fuel price hikes, director for operations Engr. Mike Capati said Tuesday.

Interviewed on Dobol B TV, Capati pointed out that the MRT focuses on helping commuters and preventing giving more burden to them.

“Wala po tayong pinag-uusapan na pagtaas ng pamasahe. Never pa po 'yang pinag-usapan namin. Ang importante tulungan muna natin 'yung mga pasahero natin. Huwag na tayong maging pabigat pa. So far wala kaming pinag-uusapang ganyan,” he said.

(We have not discussed increasing fare. We never talked about that. What is important is that we first help our passengers. Don’t be a burden to them. So far we have not discussed that.)

Oil firms implemented a major price hike on Tuesday, marking the 11th straight week of increases with domestic pump prices already hitting P84.55 per liter in select areas across the country.

Some fuel companies raised the prices per liter of gasoline by P7.10, diesel by P13.15, and kerosene by P10.50 effective March 15.

Several groups of public utility vehicle drivers and operators have filed a  petition for fare increase in light of the series of price hikes on fuel.

On Thursday, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board said it will begin the distribution of fuel subsidies this week after the Department of Budget and Management released the funds.—AOL,GMA News
