Leni on presidency: Best man for the job is a woman

Vice President Leni Robredo, the only woman among the 10 candidates for president in the May 2022 elections, on Saturday laid down the reasons why she is the best "man" for the job.

During the presidential debates organized by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Robredo said true leaders are those who are always present and willing to sacrifice in order to help those in need.

"Ako po, may eleksyon o wala, bagyo, pandemya, sakuna, kahit anong problema, nandito po ako. Kaya huwag na nating hanapin ang ayaw humarap sa atin," Robredo said, in what could be taken as a swipe at Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

"Lahat na oras, andito po ako, hinaharap kayo, ipinapakipaglaban kayo. True leaders show up and man up. Kaya sa darating na Mayo, the best man for the job is a woman," she added.

The son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., Marcos has skipped some presidential debates and interviews, including the one organized by the Comelec, saying he'd rather campaign than face the answer the same questions.

Robredo, who defeated Marcos in the 2016 vice presidential race, said records will show how her office, with assistance from private partners, was able to help communities through their programs.

"Kahit anong kuwentong ipakalat sa akin, ang totoo, kumpleto kami ng resibo," she said.

Despite his absences in some debates and interviews, Marcos leads various pre-election presidential surveys, with Robredo a far second. KBK, GMA News
