Building collapses in Ermita; no one hurt

A residential building under construction in Manila’s Ermita district collapsed Thursday afternoon when the land under it gave way while construction was going on. The incident startled passersby and snarled traffic for hours. Police immediately cordoned off the Adriatico Residences owned by Robinsons’ Land Corp. along Adriatico Street in Ermita following the incident that took place shortly after 4 p.m. Police also closed the area to the public after noting that a heavy crane tower near the accident site might also fall. Initial investigation by the Manila Police District station 5 showed the land gave way while construction workers were driving the posts into the building’s foundation. No one was reported hurt but a Kia Pregio van and a Mitsubishi L-300 delivery van were destroyed after being “sucked" into the crater.-GMANews.TV
