Philippines okay as I go home, says Duterte

President Rodrigo Duterte said on Friday that he will step down as chief executive who has fulfilled his promises to the Filipino people.

"I'm coming home, God willing.  Kita ko ang Pilipinas okay naman and lahat ng sinabi ko sa tao na gagawin ko, just from the number of my fingers, siguro mag-abot ng sampu," he said.

"Law and order, droga…universal health care, education, irrigation ng farmers, infrastructure, nakita na nyo...," he added in a speech at the inauguration of the Cancer Diagnostic Institute Building and Cancer Treatment Facility Building of the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) in his hometown in Davao City.

He reiterated that those involved in illegal drugs should get out of the addiction, vowing his administration would continue to run after them.

Duterte said he felt fulfilled in life and that he could not ask for more.  He added he was a fool to seek the presidency in 2016, the same thing he said for those seeking the top political post in the upcoming May 2022 elections.

"Fulfilled na ako sa lahat ng bagay.  Wala na akong mahihiling pa sa Diyos.  Kung humingi pa ako sa Diyos ng marami, sabihin nya ....umabot ka na dyan.  But it was all worth it," he said.

"Ang taong mag-ambisyon na mag-presidente, gago.  Kagaya ko, minsan mamayat ako, minsan tataba ako.  When you get to study all documents of the Republic of the Philippines, mawawalan ka ng stamina," he added.

Duterte also declared anew that when it comes to government projects, he did not favor the places where he won during the 2016 elections.

"I told the Department of Public Works and Highways, Transportation, ang pera, hatiin para sa lahat. Kaya kahit saan ka magpunta, kahit sa Luzon, you can see the stretch of the highways, as far as your eyes can see," Duterte said.

"Pag pumunta sila sa Ilocos, iyong eight hours, you can make it in five hours if there is no traffic, ganoon na lang. Kasi nagpagawa ako ng mga highways na bago," Duterte added.—LDF, GMA News
