PNP, PDEA seized biggest 2-week drug haul worth P13.2B from March 6-19 —DILG

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Monday said anti-drug operatives confiscated illegal drugs worth P13.2 billion from March 6 to 19.

In a statement, the DILG said this was the biggest confiscation within two weeks in the history of the anti-illegal drugs program of the government: 1,775.2 kilos of shabu and 421.5 kilos of marijuana.

DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said one of the major operations was in Karuhatan, Valenzuela on March 8 where 160 kilos of shabu worth P1.08 billion were seized and a Chinese national and Filipina were arrested.

The second major anti-illegal drugs operation was in Infanta, Quezon on March 16 where 1,600 kilos of shabu worth P12 billion were confiscated and 10 suspects were arrested.

A total of 1,794 drug raids were conducted in the two-week period where two suspects died, 2,471 were arrested, and 61 surrendered.

Año urged the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency to strengthen their operations and target big drug syndicates.

“I urge our drug enforcement agencies to further intensify their operations and target big drug syndicates so we can protect and save our people and our country from the ill effects of illegal drugs,” he said. —Joviland Rita/KG, GMA News
