Comelec, DICT activate online precinct finder for Eleksyon 2022

The online precinct finder for the May 9 polls was activated on Friday by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

“Yung precinct finder sa ating cloud environment that we are sponsoring, as of today, ni-live na natin,” DICT Acting Secretary Emmanuel Rey Caintic said during the signing of the memorandum of agreement between the two agencies.

(We have made the precinct finder in the cloud environment that we are sponsoring live as of today.)

According to Caintic, the precinct finder is a useful platform to combat voter disenfranchisement by guiding voters who have difficulties locating their assigned voting precinct.

Comelec said the link to the precinct finder will be announced soon.

In addition to the precinct locator, the Comelec and the DICT will set up a website that will contain the results of the 2022 national and local elections.

“The DICT commits to deploy whatever means we have to ensure safe and secure election process for our fellow Filipinos. The DICT shall offer cloud hosting of the Comelec's online services,” Caintic said.

Comelec Chairperson Saidamen Pangarungan said the agreement was in line with his "promise of providing full transparency in the elections."

“The security of the automated elections is consistent with the DICT's functions to harmonize and coordinate all actions on ICT plans and initiatives,” he said.

A registration status verifier will be launched once the poll body resumes voter registration, Caintic said.

An online voter certification application will also be opened to the public, he added. — VBL, GMA News
