Gov't mulls 6-month expiration for COVID-19 vaccination cards —DILG exec

The government is considering setting a six-month expiration on vaccination cards to convince the public to take booster shots against COVID-19, an official of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said on Monday.

At the Laging Handa public briefing, DILG Undersecretary Epimaco Densing III said this is among the measures the government is looking at to increase the number of people with booster shots.

“Pangalawa, itong posibilidad na kung hindi ka pa nagpapa-booster after six months, automatic na ang inyong vax card ay expired na,” he said.

(Second, the government is also considering the possibility of automatic expiration of vaccination cards if you have not received your booster shot after six months.)

As of March 30, a total of 65,885,048 people are already fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Only 12,018,418 people have received their booster shot.

Most of the people who received booster shots are from the National Capital Region, according to Densing.

The Bangsamoro Region and some provinces still had low numbers of inoculations among its population, he added.

On Sunday, Presidential Adviser for Entrepreneurship Jose “Joey” Concepcion III warned that some 27 million doses of vaccines the government has acquired are going to expire in three months if unused. —KG, GMA News
