DILG eyes 1.2M tricycle drivers, operators for fuel subsidy
The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said Thursday around 1.2 million tricycle drivers and operators can be included as beneficiaries for fuel subsidies.
At a press conference, DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said the department is tasked to direct local government units to come up with a list of names of tricycle drivers and operators.
The list will be submitted to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), who will distribute the cash aid to beneficiaries.
“More or less ang estimate is about 1.2 million tricycle operators and drivers. This list we are going to submit to the LTFRB. Sila pa rin ang mamimigay noon (They will distribute the subsidies),” he said.
Año made the statement when asked if the DILG already forwarded the list to the LTFRB. He pointed out the submission of names is an ongoing process.
Earlier, the LTFRB said it is still waiting for the list of tricycle drivers from the DILG.
In March, LTFRB started the distribution of P6,500 fuel subsidies to over 377,000 qualified PUV drivers and operators to help alleviate their plight due to the price hikes on fuel amid the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
The subsidy could be claimed through cash cards issued by the Landbank of the Philippines that can be used in accredited fuel stations.—AOL, GMA News
