Robredo: DepEd modules should not contain falsehoods that defame public officials

Dagupan City, Pangasinan - Vice President and presidential candidate Leni Robredo said Friday that the Department of Education (DepEd) should not allow printed modules that falsely paint public officials in a bad light.

Robredo was responding to the purported DepEd module which portrayed her as someone with bad grammar who was unable to construct a proper sentence, and as someone who makes unsubstantiated generalizations.

"Nakita ko na, nakita ko na siya pero hintayin ko ‘yung DepEd to comment. Pero responsibility nila ito eh. ‘Yung DepEd dapat hindi nagpapalabas ng anything– not just because ako ‘yung nasa receiving end ng ginawa, pero kahit ano na magpo-poison sa minds ng mga tao," Robredo told reporters after attending a forum on Education in University of Pangasinan.

(I have seen it and I don't know if it was issued by the DepEd. But this is DepEd's responsibility. I am saying this not just because I am at the receiving end of this, but the DepEd should not allow any material that will poison the minds of people.)

"Dapat hindi ‘yun pinapalusot ng DepEd. Kasi pagpapakita lang– kung totoo, kung totoo na naka-lusot ito sa Grade 11 na mga modules, gustong sabihin na napaka inefficient ng DepEd. Ito lang ‘yung pinaka-ebidensya na napaka inefficient nila na pinapayagan nila na ‘yung mga module na ganito nakakalusot sa kanila," Robredo added.

(The DepEd should not allow this. If this is indeed true that Grade 11 students were given these modules, that makes DepEd inefficient. This proves its inefficiency because apparently, these materials are getting past them.)

The DepEd Division Office allegedly involved in the self-learning module concerned would respond and release a statement sometime Friday.

Bailiwick

Meanwhile, Robredo was confident that the Bicol Region would remain her bailiwick, not just because she was from Camarines Sur, but because of her character.

Robredo made the comment in response to a supposed audio recording of Camarines Sur lawmaker LRay Villafuerte calling on his supporters to spread fake news about Robredo.

"Hindi ko kasi alam kung totoo siya kaya ayaw ko mag-comment. Pero alam mo ‘yung mga tao sa amin, kilala ako. Kahit anong paninira, kilala nila kung sino ako," she said.

(I don't know if it was him but the people from my region know me well.)

"Hindi magtatagumpay ‘yun," she added.

(This will not succeed.)
