Meta: Vic Rodriguez FB account restored after being incorrectly flagged

Facebook parent firm, Meta, said that the Facebook account of lawyer Vic Rodriguez, spokesperson for presidential candidate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., was incorrectly flagged as an imposter account.

“Earlier today, the account was mistakenly restricted for reasons unrelated to any posted content. The account has since been restored,” Meta said in a statement.

Rodriguez earlier claimed that Facebook suspended his account “because I am for Bongbong Marcos.”

Based on the screenshot shared by Rodriguez, Facebook said Rodriguez's account or activities did not follow the community standards of the social networking site.

Meanwhile, Meta noted that it found technical irregularities among some government and non-government pages.

“This triggered the automated blocking of some links on our apps. We have since resolved this issue and we will continue to monitor the situation,” Meta explained.

Earlier today, Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. questioned Facebook’s series of flaggings and post removals from the accounts of government officials and government media agencies.

“While we recognize Facebook and Meta’s continuing efforts against disinformation, cyberbullying, hate speech, terrorism, among other problems encountered in social media platforms, I join the concern of government agencies and mass media organizations about the effects of the abovementioned incidents in the performance of official functions and their implications in national security, sovereignty and fundamental freedoms,” Revilla said in a letter addressed to Facebook country director John Rubio.

Facebook previously took down hundreds of accounts and pages in the Philippines for engaging in various malicious activities ahead of the May 2022 elections. — DVM, GMA News
