DepEd: Teachers allowed not to report on-site from May 2 to 13


Teachers will be allowed not to report for on-site duty from May 2 to 13 to prepare for the upcoming May 9 elections, the Department of Education (DepEd) said on Friday.

In a statement, DepEd approved the recommendation of the regional directors and division superintendents raised through the governance and operations strand as majority of teachers are expected to serve in May 9 polls.

The department said at least 647,812 DepEd personnel would serve as poll workers—319,317 as members of the Electoral Boards (EB), and 200,627 as EB support staff.

The DepEd said teachers and schools will also prepare for election activities and as polling places before election day, adding that post-election activities in the schools and by the teachers who will serve in the elections.

“Teachers not serving in the elections shall continue to attend to tasks including the accomplishment of school forms, preparation of instructional materials, preparation of learning plans, and evaluation of learner’s outputs/portfolios, during the period,” the department added.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones earlier said necessary assistance to the field offices and schools will be provided by the central office.

She also encouraged DepEd personnel and students who are registered to participate in the May 9 polls. —Richa Noriega/NB, GMA News
