Clark International Airport passenger terminal building starts accepting passengers

The new passenger terminal building at the Clark International Airport started to accept passengers on Monday, over a year after its was initially scheduled to be fully operational.

The passenger terminal was undertaken as a hybrid public-private partnership (PPP) project headed by the Megawide GMR Construction Joint Venture Inc. (MGCJV).

The group counts as members Megawide Construction Corp., GMR Infrastructure (Singapore) Pte. Limited, and GME Holdings Overseas (Singapore) Pte. Limited.

The engineering, procurement, and construction contract for the project was signed on January 29, 2018, involving the construction of the 82,600-square meter passenger terminal building.

Presidential Adviser for Flagship Programs and Projects Vivencio Dizon in 2020 said the passenger terminal building will be fully operational by January 2021, after being 99.52% complete as of August 2020.

The new terminal building is set to triple the airport’s passenger capacity to 12 million from 4 million earlier, with flights transferred starting Monday, May 2, 2022.

The operations and management of the airport was bagged by the Luzon International Premier Airport Development (LIPAD), a consortium led by the Gokongwei and Gotianun groups.

The terminal has a 110,000-square-meter total land area, which would eventually host 18 aerobridges and state-of-the-art facilities such as touchless passenger check-in.—AOL, GMA News
