NGCP wants May 9-11 holidays for gov't agencies to ensure enough power supply for Eleksyon 2022

The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) wants May 9 to 11 declared as holidays for government agencies to ensure power supply will be enough for the transmission of votes in Eleksyon 2022.

The NGCP said however there is enough power supply in the country as long as no plant will break down, according to a report on GMA News' Saksi on Monday.

The NGCP also encouraged consumers to conserve energy.

"Pinangangambahan natin iyong sabay-sabay na pagtirik ng mga planta. Kung gusto niyong manigurado ay dapat tignan natin iyong mga paraan para ma-control natin iyong demand on those critical days," NGCP spokesperson Atty. Cynthia Alabanza said.

(We dread the possibility that [power] plants would break down at the same time. If you want to be sure [of enough power supply], we should look at ways to control the demand on those critical days.)

The Department of Energy said power supply remains thin and backup is needed.

The DOE also asked power distributors to have emergency facilities ready.

Election Day is on Monday, May 9, for national and local posts. —KG, GMA News
