Robredo: I thought all will be okay after EDSA
Vice President Leni Robredo said the campaign period for the May 9, 2022 elections showed people making their voices heard and taking a stand anew for the country, reminiscent of the 1986 EDSA People Power.
“Naalala ko noong 1986, noong bago nag-People Power Revolution nasa college ako noon ganito din kaming mga kabataan yung malalakas ang loob para pumunta sa kalsada at labanan yung diktadurya,” she said in a campaign rally in Zamboanga de Norte Wednesday.
“Akala ko pagkatapos ng People Power Revolution okay na lahat, pero nakikita natin ngayon na kahit sobrang haba ng panahon naabuso ang ating bansa, parang balik na naman tayo lumalaban na naman tayo, ang nilalabanan natin ngayon pagmamahal sa ating bayan,” Robredo said.
The bloodless uprising forced then president Ferdinand Marcos and his family and cronies out of the country. The late dictator's son, Bongbong, is currently the frontrunner in the latest Pulse Asia survey that could signal a return of the Marcos family at the helm of government.
Robredo thanked volunteers and supporters who have helped kept the campaign going for the Leni-Kiko tandem.
“First time kong nakita in a very long while na ganito ka grabe yung volunteerism at karamihan dito talagang yung nagvovolunteer mga kabataan. Kaming mga may edad na kami na yung nasa sideline pero masayang masaya ako na yung mga kabataan nagtatake part na sa laban na ito," she said.
On the last three days of the campaign, Robredo and running mate Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan will visit Ilocos Sur and several areas in Mindanao and the Bicol region before their miting de avance in Makati City.—LDF, GMA News
