40K local absentee voting ballots now with Comelec

A total of 40,000 local absentee voting ballots have been delivered to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) main office as of Wednesday, May 4.

But Comelec Commissioner George Garcia said the Philippine Navy has yet to deliver a single ballot due to logistical problems, according to GMA News reporter Tina Panganiban-Perez’s tweet.

Among the accomplished ballots received are the following:

  • Philippine Army: 11,305
  • Philippine Air Force: 2,618
  • Philippine National Police: 22,794
  • Department of Education: 820
  • Bureau of Jail Management and Penology: 738
  • Bureau of Fire Protection: 47
  • Media: 809
  • Comelec: 687
  • Department of the Interior and Local Government: 13
  • Philippine Coast Guard: 157
  • Department of Foreign Affairs: 1
  • Public Attorney's Office: 2
  • National Power Corporation: 9

The Comelec said a total of 84,357 voters have been allowed to avail of local absentee voting (LAV), which was held from April 27 to 29, 2022.

However, the applications of 9,341 individuals were disapproved because they were either not registered or have been deactivated.

The poll body allows government employees and officials, members of the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines, as well as media workers, including photojournalists, documentary makers, technical and support staff, bloggers, and freelance journalists to avail of the local absentee voting.

Meanwhile, the Comelec office in Intramuros, Manila continues to receive local absentee voting ballots.

These are kept in a heavily guarded room in the Comelec office, and will be opened on May 9 for canvassing. — Richa Noriega/RSJ, GMA News
