Over 756,000 poll workers to serve on Election Day — DepEd

A total of 756,083 poll workers have been designated to monitor the conduct of the May 9, 2022 elections, the Department of Education (DepEd) said Friday.

At a press conference, DepEd Undersecretary Alain Pascua said that around 90% or 647,812 of the total number are personnel from the department.

“The total poll workers that will be mobilized and deputized by the Comelec is about 756,083 poll workers. And among that, the DepEd poll workers will account to about 90%—647,812,” he said.

Of the DepEd personnel, Pascua said 319,317 are electoral boards (EB); 200,627 EB support staff; 38,989 DepEd supervisor officials; (DESO); 87,162 DESO support staff; and 1,717 board of canvassers.

These poll workers are deputized by the Commission on Elections, according to Pascua.

Also, Pascua said the DepEd created a separate group, the DepEd Election Task Force, to address concerns of teachers and schools amid the polls. He noted that the task force is not mobilized by the Comelec but the DepEd.

The DepEd Election Task Force will have five groups in every region and division, according to Pascua. Its operation will start on May 8 until May 10, he added.

Meanwhile, Pascua said Grab Philippines committed to prioritize DepEd personnel who are working for the polls on election day.

He said that the ride-hailing firm will soon provide code for DepEd personnel to enjoy special services. — RSJ, GMA News
