Palace calls for healing, unity after Eleksyon 2022

Malacañang on Wednesday appealed for healing and unity two days after the country held general elections to determine the successor of President Rodrigo Duterte.

In a statement, acting presidential spokesperson Martin Andanar congratulated everyone for their cooperation in making this year's elections "generally peaceful and orderly."

“As we wait for the official and final results, we have to underscore that this year’s political exercise is a showcase of the strength of our democratic system and institutions. Further, the high voter turnout is evidence of the growing political interest and maturity of our people,” he said.

He congratulated the likely winners as "you embark on new responsibilities and challenges in your office."

“The Filipino people have spoken and now is the time to heal and unite as one nation and one people,” Andanar said.

Based on an unofficial count, both presidential candidate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. and his running mate, Sara Duterte, have a huge lead, with 98% of election returns already sent to the Commission on Elections.
