7 dead, 33 hurt in Election Day 'incidents' —DILG


Twenty-seven "incidents" were reported on May 9, Election Day, which resulted in the death of seven people, according to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

"Sa mismong araw ng eleksyon, ito po ay nung May 9, nakapag-rehistro tayo ng 27 incidents [On the day of elections on May 9, we recorded 27 incidents]," DILG Secretary Eduardo Año told President Rodrigo Duterte during Talk to the People that aired Thursday.

Aside from the seven fatalities, 33 were injured in these incidents, Año said.

There were 11 shooting and mauling incidents in Albay, Negros Oriental, Cotabato City, Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Basilan, and Zamboanga del Norte, he added.

Three grenade explosions were reported in Maguindanao and Cotabato, while two strafing incidents were reported in Basilan.

Meanwhile, four incidents of commotions were recorded in Maguindanao, Camarines Sur, Lanao, and Tawi-Tawi.

Two ballot snatching incidents happened in Lanao del Sur and Basilan, while three incidents of unauthorized people barging in polling precincts were also reported in Batangas, Maguindanao, and Abra.

Also two incidents of destruction of vote-counting machines were reported in Lanao del Sur.

According to Año, only six of the 27 reported incidents on election day are suspected as election-related.  —KBK, GMA News
