PPCRV says 1.61% ER mismatch could be due to volunteers' 'typo'

The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) on Monday addressed concerns about the 1.61% mismatch recorded in some 240 election returns and the transparency media server for the 2022 elections, saying it could be due to errors on the part of the volunteers.

“I wanted to caution on the 1.6% mismatch. It doesn't mean that it is the whole ballot that’s not matching. Sometimes, you know, a volunteer is tired and may have had a typo because we matched this two times over,” PPCRV chairperson Myla Villanueva said in an ANC interview.

Acting Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco on Sunday said the 1.61% mismatch was “nothing to worry about” as it may not affect election results, especially in the national positions.

He pointed out that the PPCRV itself would review the 240 ERs manually, revalidate them from their sources, and reprocess them once they have determined the cause of the mismatch.

This was echoed by Villanueva, saying that they will look at the mismatches and explain in the next few days the reasons for such.

“So far, so good. The energy in the UST Command Center is very high and a lot of young people are learning about their democracy,” she said.

The Comelec on Friday wrapped up the operations of the transparency media server at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, since there was no expected transmission from vote counting machines except for the results of the special elections in Lanao del Sur. —KBK, GMA News
