BOC seizes P216,000 worth of marijuana oil in 'drinking tea' shipment

Authorities seized around P216,000 worth of marijuana oil in a shipment labeled “drinking tea” from California, USA, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said on Monday.

The package was confiscated by BOC-Port of Clark, Customs Anti-Illegal Drug Task Force (CAIDTF), Enforcement & Security Service (ESS), Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS), X-ray Inspection Project (XIP) & Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

During the inspection on May 9, authorities discovered marijuana hash oil or Tetrahydrocannabinol contained in three 1000-ml bottles.

A field testing was conducted by CAIDTF personnel through K9 sweeping, which yielded positive results for the presence of “mixture of HU-210 controlled substance: cannabidiol.”

Representative samples were then taken from the liquid substance and turned over to PDEA for the conduct of chemical laboratory analysis, which confirmed that the samples were Tetrahydrocannabinol or marijuana.

A warrant of seizure and detention was issued by District Collector Alexandra Lumontad against the subject shipment for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The claimant was arrested on May 19 following a controlled delivery operation conducted by the joint elements of BOC and PDEA to the consignee’s address in Parañaque City.—Mel Matthew Doctor/AOL, GMA News
