DILG urges LGUs to come up with 'No CCTV, No business permit' ordinance

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) is calling on local government units (LGUs) to formulate an ordinance that would implement a "No CCTV, No business permit" policy, according to a report on "State of the Nation."

According to a memorandum circular issued by the DILG, the following establishments are required to install a CCTV include:

  • bank
  • pawnshop
  • remittance center
  • shopping malls
  • movie theaters
  • markets
  • drug stores
  • medical facilities
  • airport
  • public terminal
  • parking lot
  • car dealership
  • gasoline station

The DILG said having CCTVs is a big help in solving crimes.

The agency has issued a similar memorandum in the past but a new set of guidelines was issued that included the requirement of updating the quality of the CCTV equipment, the number of units that should be installed, and the areas where these should be placed.

The DILG also noted that there are business establishments that try to save money end up installing low quality CCTV monitors. -- BAP/KG, GMA News
