Robredo camp not yet done with post-election assessment
The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo is not yet done with its assessment on 2022 polls, spokesperson and lawyer Ibarra Gutierrez said Tuesday.
Gutierrez made the statement two days after Robredo returned to the Philippines after attending the graduation of her youngest daughter Jillian in New York University and spending two weeks with her daughters in the United States.
"Machinery still counts a lot in the Philippine elections. We haven’t really finished the assessment of the totality of what happened," Gutierrez said in an ANC interview.
"This is a post-social media election...it’s [apparent] that social media now determines the outcome," he added.
Robredo, who garnered over 15 million votes, lost the election to president-elect Bongbong Marcos who got over 31 million votes.
Bongbong, son of the late dictator President Ferdinand Marcos, consistently topped pre-election surveys while Robredo ranked a far second.
Gutierrez acknowledged that Robredo's fight against Marcos was a Herculean one, made even tougher by the massive disinformation online.
Findings by fact-checking academe group Tsek.ph showed that Robredo was the biggest victim of online disinformation while Marcos was the biggest beneficiary.
"People did not have a constant source of information so they went to YouTube and TikTok," Gutierrez added.
Robredo plans to launch Angat Buhay non-government organization by July 1 in an effort to consolidate efforts of her campaign volunteers who would want to help those in need.
"I think she will prefer to be in Bicol but if she will be pursuing one NGO, then at the minimum she will have to spend some of her time in Manila," Gutierrez said.
"Moving forward, it is possible some new movement will emerge. We look forward to seeing that after June 30," he added.—AOL, GMA News
