US top official to meet Marcos this month

US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman is set to visit the Philippines this month, with the agenda of meeting President-elect Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

According to the US Department of State, Sherman will travel to Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Laos from June 5 to 14.

Aside from having a meeting with Marcos, Sherman will also meet senior officials of the incoming and outgoing administration to discuss new measures to strengthen the bilateral relations between the US and the Philippines.

On May 23, Marcos met with US Charges d' Affaires Heather Variava where they discussed possible extension and "redefining" of the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA).

Among the topics raised during Marcos' meeting with Variava were security issues. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
