Some fishers selling boats amid rising fuel costs

Some fishermen have sold their boats amid the soaring prices of petroleum products in the country.

According to Cedrick Castillo's report on “24 Oras” on Monday, fishing boat owner Jovelina Castillo said she sold her two fishing boats because operating them have become too costly due to the successive increases in domestic pump prices.

“Hindi kaya ang pagtaas ng diesel at gasolina kasi halos araw-araw kaming bumibili ng mga produktong iyan,” Castillo said.

(We cannot afford the increase of prices in diesel and gasoline because we buy these products almost everyday.)

Meanwhile, fisherman Vicente has stopped fishing for two weeks as he expressed his dismay over the series of oil hikes.

In separate advisories, several oil companies said they will hike prices per liter of gasoline by P2.70, diesel by P6.55, and kerosene by P5.45. effective June 7, 2022.

Domestic pump prices have so far been on an uptrend for most of the year, with only eight weekly rollbacks implemented in 2022.

Latest data available from the Department of Energy (DOE) show that year-to-date adjustments stand at a net increase of P23.85 per liter for gasoline, P30.30 per liter for diesel, and P27.65 per liter for kerosene as of May 31, 2022.—Mel Matthew Doctor/LDF, GMA News
