Inday Sara to continue pushing for Davao's High Priority Bus System

Vice President-elect Sara Duterte on Monday vowed to continue pushing for the High Priority Bus System project in Davao City in the Marcos administration.

Speaking to reporters a day after her inauguration, Duterte was asked what would happen to the city government's project as she was now set to serve as the second highest official in the country.

"Mayroon kaming darating na meeting with him, 'yung in charge dito sa city government of Davao. I initially gave him instructions to make sure na from the Duterte administration, nakikipagusap na siya doon sa dalawang departments, DENR and DOTr, so that from those offices, ma-endorse siya doon sa transition papunta sa President Marcos na administration," Duterte explained.

(I'll have a meeting with the person in charge of the project. I initially gave him instructions to ensure that he'll talk with the two departments, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Department of Transportation, so that this will be endorsed to the Marcos administration.)

"I will endeavor to push for the two projects in the administration of President Marcos," Duterte added.

The HPBS is part of the P18.66-billion Davao Public Transport Modernization Project (DPTMP), which aims to modernize the bus system in the Southern Philippine city.

The Department of Transportation noted that with the HPBS, interconnected bus services will be prioritized on the 137-kilometer core network and the 489 kilometers of feeder routes.

The agency added that once operational, the HPBS would have 29 bus routes, divided into four tiers:

  • MetroDavao as core services connecting all major commercial centers along the five routes;
  • DavaoInter along eight routes connecting inner urban areas directly to the Davao Central Business District;
  • DavaoFeeder along nine routes linking smaller centers and areas of more dispersed populations to the MetroDavao services; and
  • DavaoLocal links the outer rural areas of the city and main transport system or integrated terminals.
