IBP condemns Laylo slay in Philadelphia

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) on Wednesday condemned the "senseless" killing of Lawyer John Albert “Jal” Laylo who was shot dead in a fatal gun attack during his visit to relatives in Philadelphia.

In a statement, members of the IBP condoled with the victim's family.

“The IBP extends its sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Atty. John Albert ‘Jal’ Laylo, who was killed, according to news reports, in a random and senseless shooting incident while visiting relatives in the United States,” the IBP said.

“The IBP is saddened by the loss of another member of the legal profession and is sorry to hear about his untimely passing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the loved ones left and we wish them courage and peace as they go through this most difficult time,” it added.

Members of the IBP called on US authorities to serve justice and go after the persons behind the incident.

“We strongly condemn this senseless act and hope that the US authorities are able to serve Atty. Laylo and provide the family he left behind justice and peace of mind by apprehending the perpetrators at the soonest time possible,” it said.

Laylo, who was in the US with his mother Leah to visit their relatives, was killed in a shooting incident early Sunday (Philippine time) in the city of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. His mother Leah sustained minor injuries.

Philippine Consul General in New York Elmer Cato said the Philadelphia police are looking at road rage or random shooting as the possible motives behind the deadly attack. —NB, GMA News
