Marcos inauguration to move inside National Museum if it rains

The inauguration of president-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. may move indoors in the event of bad weather, according to Jun Veneracion’s “24 Oras” report on Wednesday.

Marcos will take his oath as the 17th president of the Philippines at the National Museum of the Philippines in Ermita, Manila on Thursday.

A stage has been set up outside the museum for the event and parade rehearsals have been ongoing.

Organizers, however, are also preparing for a transfer indoors in case Tropical Depression Caloy decides to rain on the parade.

“We are preparing for Plan B, we are discussing it,” said event director Franz Imperial.

He added that the inauguration will be “simple and traditional,” as requested by the president-elect.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Security Group also conducted a final simulation of the security convoy for Marcos’ arrival.

Police Major General Valeriano De Leon, Philippine National Police (PNP) Directorate for Operations, said security systems are clear for the inauguration.

He, however, appealed to protesters to refrain from going near the venue.

“Ang guidance ng ating officer in charge na si [Police Lieutenant General Vicente] Danao is to exercise maximum tolerance pero hindi rin naman natin hahayaan na sasaktan ang ating kapulisan,” De Leon said.

(The guidance of our officer in charge, Police Lieutenant General Vicente Danao, is to exercise maximum tolerance but we will also not allow our policemen to be hurt.)

The city governments of Manila, Pasay, San Juan, Navotas, and the municipality of Pateros have declared June 30, Thursday, as a special non-working holiday for the inauguration.

Several roads have been closed to motorists to secure the areas around the National Museum and Malacañang. — Richa Noriega/BM, GMA News
