Nonoy Andaya passes away at 53

Former Camarines Sur Representative Rolando “Nonoy” Andaya Jr. passed away Thursday morning, his family confirmed. He was 53.

His children, Ranton and Katrina Andaya, announced the former congressman's passing in a social media post as they asked for prayers for their father.

“With deep grief and sadness, we announce the untimely death of our father, former member of the House of Representatives, Rolando 'Nonoy' G. Andaya, Jr., this morning, June 30, 2022,” they said in a Facebook post.

“We request for your fervent prayers for his eternal repose, and to allow us, his family, to grieve privately our loss,” they added.

A police report said Andaya was found dead inside his own residence in Naga City.

A long-term public servant, Andaya served in the House of Representatives during the 11th, 12th, and 13th Congress. His tenure at the 13th Congress was cut short, however, after former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo appointed him as Budget Secretary in 2006.

He was again elected to Congress in 2010 and later ran in the succeeding 2013 and 2016 elections. He served as the representative of the 1st District of Camarines Sur until 2019.

Andaya ran for governor of Camarines Sur in the 2022 national and local elections but lost to Luigi Villafuerte. — DVM/KBK, GMA News
