DOJ chief Remulla appoints Medardo de Lemos as NBI-OIC
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla has appointed National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Assistant Director Medardo de Lemos as the next officer-in-charge of the bureau, replacing Director Eric Distor.
“The OIC shall perform and discharge the duties and responsibilities of the office until 31 July 2022 or until a replacement has been appointed or designated, whichever comes first,” Remulla said in an order.
According to Isa Avendaño-Umali’s report on Super Radyo dzBB, De Lemos has been serving at the NBI since 1985 and served as its assistant director for the past 12 years.
Meanwhile, Mico Clavano from the Office of the Secretary said Remulla met with De Lemos on Monday regarding the deaths of several inmates at the New Bilibid Prison.
“The issue was discussed and SOJ wanted to validate the facts already presented but would like to inquire more into the incident,” he said in a message to reporters.
Last week, the NBI filed murder complaints against 22 members of the National Capital Region Police Office over the allegedly questionable deaths of some high-profile inmates during the COVID-19 pandemic. —KBK, GMA News
