Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi pays courtesy call on Marcos

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi paid a courtesy call on President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Wednesday afternoon.

The courtesy call was held at the Music Room of the Malacañang Palace.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Marcos said they discussed agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and their commitment to maintaining the strong ties between their citizens in the coming years.

Marcos also expressed his gratitude to Wang for conveying the greetings and support of Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Marcos earlier said there are other things that should be tackled between the Philippines and China, and not just the issue on the West Philippine Sea. He added that cultural and educational exchanges should also be done as well as discussions on the military "if that will be useful."

Earlier in the day, Wang said the relationship between the two countries has “turned a new page” with Marcos being elected as the Philippines’ Chief Executive.

“With President Marcos being elected, China-Philippine relationship has turned a new page. We highly appreciate President Marcos’ recent commitment to pursuing a friendly policy toward China and we speak highly of his latest statements that has sent a very positive signal to the outside world,” Wang said.
