Police to intensify campaign vs. illegal use of sirens, blinkers

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will intensify its implementation of the law against the illegal use of sirens and blinkers.

PNP director for operations Police Major General Valeriano de Leon advised motorists to remove sirens and blinkers from their vehicles to avoid being apprehended.

“We expect the HPG to intensify the operations in the coming days,” De Leon said.

De Leon warned sellers and auto shops from installing sirens and blinkers on private vehicles as the police will monitor their activities.

“Those who sell these items and those who install them will be equally liable,” De Leon said.

Under the Presidential Decree No. 96, the use of those devices is exclusive to the vehicles designated for official use by the PNP, Armed Forces, National Bureau of Investigation, Land Transportation Office, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and ambulances.

On Tuesday, Senator JV Ejercito urged President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to revive the campaign against the abusive use of emergency vehicle sirens or "wang-wang."

Ejercito said that some local officials and Cabinet members are abusing the use of "wang-wang."  —NB, GMA News
