Hontiveros wishes best for ‘best and brightest’ in Marcos Cabinet

Opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros wished the best for “best and brightest” among the cabinet members of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

In the latest episode of The Mangahas Interview, Hontiveros underscored the need for cabinet members to develop strategies to lessen the burden of Filipinos.

“I wish the best doon sa totoong best and brightest sa loob ng Cabinet, so far," Hontiveros told journalist Malou Mangahas.

"Kailangan ng karamihan ng ating mga kababayan, lalo na ang mga mahihirap pati na ang mga middle class na naghihirap na rin ng ilang mga taon,” she added.

(I wish the best for the best and brightest among the Cabinet members, so far. Most of our countrymen need them, especially the poor as well as the middle class who have been suffering for several years.)

“Kailangan na sila ay maging magaling at sila ay magtagumpay alang-alang sa ating bayan,” she added.

(They need to be good and succeed for the sake of our country.)

The Senator also stressed that she would keep an eye over graft and corruption among government offices.

“At kailangan tuloy pa rin at dagdagan pa ang pagbantay laban sa graft and corruption dahil yan na ang napatunayan na ang kasaysayan gaano man kagaling ang technocracy kung mayroon pagdarambog ay ang ibubunga ay kahirapan na hanggang sa ngayon ay ating kaharap,” she said.

(And we still need to continue and increase vigilance against graft and corruption because that is what history has proven that no matter how good the technocracy is, if there is plunder, the result will be poverty that we have faced until now.)

Hontiveros was the lone opposition bet who won as senator in the 2022 national and local elections with 15,420,807 votes. —Mel Matthew Doctor/NB, GMA News
