Palace: Galvez to remain Peace Adviser in ‘hold-over capacity’

Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. would remain head of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity (OPAPRU) on a “holdover capacity” until the end of this year.

His reappointment was confirmed by the Office of the Press Secretary on Saturday.

Based on Office of the President Memorandum Order No. 1, Galvez remained in his post to ensure that there would be “no interruption or disruption in the activities of the OPAPRU and the implementation of the comprehensive peace process.”

Last March, Galvez visited Sulu province and had a series of meetings with the top brass of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ 11th Infantry Division and secured several peace engagements with the military.

Around 3,000 former rebels are expected to be reintegrated back into society this year as the national government launched its rehabilitation program for surrendered Sulu province insurgents. — DVM, GMA News
