Philippines logs 2,285 new COVID-19 infections, active cases breach 20K


The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday recorded 2,285 new COVID-19 cases, the highest single-day tally since February.

This is the fifth straight day with more than 2,000 new infections.

Based on the DOH’s latest data, the country’s active cases increased to 20,524 from 19,873 on Sunday. This is the highest active case total since April 14, when 24,179 active cases were recorded.

The total number of COVID-19 infections in the country is now at 3,735,383.

Meanwhile, the number of recoveries climbed to 3,654,218 while the death toll remained at 60,641.

According to the DOH, the regions with the most cases in the last two weeks were the National Capital Region with 10,130 followed by Calabarzon with 5,707 and Central Luzon with 2,434.

The Health Department said at least 15,908 individuals were tested, while 302 testing labs submitted data on July 17.

It noted that the bed occupancy in the country was 22.7%, with 6,617 beds occupied, while 22,510 were vacant. —NB, GMA News
