FVR's family thanks gov't for assistance to wake, state burial
The family of late President Fidel V. Ramos on Thursday thanked the national government for its support and assistance in the wake of the late chief executive.
In a statement, the Ramos family expressed gratitude to the Office of the President and other government agencies for ensuring the “peaceful, orderly, and safe” observance of their patriarch's burial.
Ramos, who served as Philippine president from 1992 to 1998, passed away on Sunday, July 31. He was 94.
“Former First Lady Amelita “Ming” M. Ramos and family will be receiving current and past leaders from the Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary during the wake,” the bereaved family said.
Earlier in the day, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos and other state officials paid their last respect to Ramos at the Heritage Park in Taguig City.
Among those who visited the wake Thursday morning are Executive Secretary Atty. Victor Rodriguez, Energy Secretary Rafael Lotilla, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, House Speaker Martin Romualdez, Special Assistant to the President Antonio Lagdameo Jr., Senator Francis Tolentino, Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. and wife Cavite Rep. Lani Mercado, former Senate President Vicente Sotto III, and former Vice President Leni Robredo.
Malacañang previously announced a period of mourning for Ramos’ death from July 31 to August 9. The Palace also said the late president will be accorded a state funeral on August 9. —Sundy Locus/AOL, GMA News
