DepEd: No fee should be collected from parents during Brigada Eskwela

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday reminded school heads that no money should be collected from parents or stakeholders during the conduct of this year’s Brigada Eskwela.

DepEd made the remark in response to reports that several teachers are allegedly soliciting materials like paint to repair classrooms ahead of the resumption of in-person classes on August 22.

“[S]chool heads are reminded that in the implementation of 2022 Brigada Eskwela (BE), no fee shall be collected from parents/guardians or solicited from other volunteers and stakeholders, based on DepEd Order No. 062, s. 2022,” the agency said in a statement.

DepEd said that Brigada Eskwela will address the learning resource gaps for teachers and students by strengthening partnerships at the local and national level.

“Brigada Eskwela is anchored on the spirit of ‘bayanihan’ and has been the prime mover of volunteerism and community involvement in the DepEd,” it added.

On August 1, DepEd officially commenced the nationwide Brigada Eskwela for School Year 2022-2023. This initiative usually involves cleaning, repainting, and doing necessary repairs in public schools to prepare them ahead of the reopening of classes.—AOL, GMA News
