Drag racing keeps QC residents awake, anxious at night

Quezon City residents who live along the Mindanao Avenue Extension have called for a stop to the alarming and dangerous illegal drag races in their area.

According to Jun Veneracion’s report on “24 Oras”, affected residents said the illegal races were held during late or early hours of the day, and keep them awake and anxious.

They added that the competitions were again becoming prevalent, being held once or twice a week.

There had previously been a crackdown against illegal drag racing in the area.

“Syempre takot ako baka mamaya madamay na naman ako lalo na napakalapitin ko sa disgrasya,” one of the residents said.

(Of course, we’re scared because we might get hurt, especially in my case because I often find myself caught in accidents.)

“May mga bata dito, hindi makatulog. Halos lahat ng residente dito ganoon. May gusto man na magreklamo, hindi magreklamo syempre natatakot sila,” she added.

(There are children here. They cannot sleep. Almost all residents cannot sleep. Some people want to report the matter to authorities but are too scared.)

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 16 said they would take immediate measures to stop the illegal races.

“Gabi-gabi magde-deploy kami ng mobil doon na dedicated para ma-prevent ang drag racing,” PCPT. Roger Molino, QCPD Station 16 Officer-in-Charge, said.
