DOJ finds cause to indict 16 for making funds available to CPP-NPA

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has found probable cause to indict 16 individuals for allegedly making funds available to the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).

In a statement, the DOJ said the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) looked into the bank accounts of the Rural Missionaries of the Philippines-Northern Mindanao Region (RMP-NMR) on the basis of two sworn statements from former CPP-NPA members.

The bank accounts were ordered frozen for six months by the Court of Appeals upon finding that the accounts were related to the financing of terrorism or have been used as conduits to facilitate the commission of financing of terrorism.

According to the witnesses, the RMP-NMR prepared project proposals to be presented to foreign funders.

They said that once the proposals are approved, 40% of the wired money will be allocated to the proposed projects while 60% will be channeled to the CPP-NPA as support for the purchase of firearms and ammunition.
