DepEd: Over 21M students now enrolled for SY 2022-2023
More than 21 million students are now enrolled for School Year (SY) 2022-2023 less than a week before the opening of classes, the Department of Education (DepEd) said Tuesday.
Based on the latest data from the DepEd Learner Information System (LIS), a total of 21,272,820 students nationwide have registered for the incoming school year from the start of the enrollment period on July 25 until 7 a.m. of August 16.
Of the figures, 18,722,393 students are in public schools, 2,478,488 are in private schools while 71,939 have enrolled in state universities and colleges and local universities and colleges.
The highest number of enrollees was recorded in Region IV-A with 3,070,451. It was followed by Region III with 2,366,003 and Metro Manila with 2,295,245.
The DepEd earlier reminded the public the last day for the enrollment will remain on August 22, or on the first day of classes, as there are still no discussions regarding its extension.
Students may enroll in person, remotely, or through drop box forms. Alternative Learning System (ALS) learners are also allowed to enroll physically or online, the department said.
Further, the DepEd urged the public to continue adhering to the minimum public health standards in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Blended learning schedules and full-distance learning will be allowed until October but starting November 2, DepEd said all public and private schools in the country should have transitioned to five days of in-person classes. — Sundy Locus/RSJ, GMA News
